When the doctor isn't worried about your cholesterol and triglycerides, should you be?
What Does My Cholesterol Mean? No.: 9.Subject: DS cholesterol analysis
You are wonderful. will you really do this for me?
I am a male aged 66 who eats very carefully and exercises moderately.
Cholesterol: 5.3
Triglycerides: 1.99
HDL: 0.9
LDL: 3.5
Total/HDL 5.9
Doctor didn't seem to be worried and didn't suggest meds or changes in diet. What do you think? I am already on low fat milk, yoghurt, olive oil and lots of veges and one glass of red wine a day. Family history of heart troubles.
Answers to cholesterol question 9:CHOL TOT 5.3 normal
TRIGlycerides of 1.99 is borderline to high
HDL cholesterol of 0.9 appears low
LDL cholesterol of 3.5 is borderline
Cholesterol RATIO 5.9:1 is high
Your cholesterol and triglycerides appear to be troublesome, as they appear to predispose you to coronary risk. I can see where your doctor is coming from, the results don't set off alarm bells, but from my perspective you do need to work on increasing your hdl cholesterol and lowering the triglycerides. How do you lower your triglycerides and increase your hdl cholesterol? The brief description of your diet is suggestive that you are eating right. Trust you are eating wholemeal and or wholegrain breads and foods. You don't mention your weight. Weight may play a big part in cholesterol and triglycerides - overweight is a recipe for self destruction. Have to admit, I am noticing that people using olive oil seem to get some odd results with their cholesterol and triglycerides. Please go over the cholesterol chart and over naturally lowering cholesterol and see if you can see anything that may help. The myth of Cholesterol page may also provide you with some useful strategies, such as Vitamin C and cholesterol. Hope these suggestions help and please write back and let me know how you go or to provide additional information,Kind regards, Donald.
